Deputy Chief Executive Celia Patrick shares how she sees our partners, providers and community groups working together to make a difference in the lives of children and families.
Bringing partnerships together
Partnering for Outcomes is the part of the business which brings together our relationships with external service providers, care providers, people in the not-for-profit sector and across government who are supporting vulnerable families and children in need.
I'm focused on meeting with our key partners, including other public sector agencies, to hear your views about what’s working well, and what opportunities there are to make a difference for children in the future.
A great place to be, at the right time
My career started in the banking sector before joining the public sector nine years ago, first as the Auckland Regional Manager for Housing New Zealand, then in a role within the New Zealand Transport Agency.
The opportunity to join a new ministry of committed people with fresh and inspiring leadership, together with having a strong government mandate to make a difference, was too good an opportunity to miss. This is a great place to be, at the right time!
The people I’ve met so far have been very passionate and caring - and I’ve been able to see what can be achieved for people with genuine, tough needs when you work together and put the right supports around them.
Bringing in the voices of children and young people
In the words of our Midlands team, we will embrace our Oranga Tamariki values and vision by partnering to support responsiveness to Māori, partnering to support frontline delivery, and partnering to support joined-up services.
The way in which we are bringing the voices of children and young people into the design of our services is very powerful.
What we need now is a long-term approach that will respect the needs and the role of families, children and young people, partnering with iwi and Māori organisations and other agencies so we can be more aligned in our work.
We want effective change
We encourage conversations and feedback to help us to really understand what’s working and what’s not working so we can effectively change where we need to.
I feel very lucky to have the opportunity to join Oranga Tamariki. There is nothing more important than the wellbeing of all children.
